UK Budget: Government confirms £160m deal to acquire Hitachi nuclear sites

 Chancellor announces deal to purchase Wylfa and Oldbury sites, as part of
Budget dominated by pre-election tax cuts. The government has today
announced plans to revive the UK’s nuclear development pipeline, confirming
it has reached a £160m deal with Hitachi to acquire two prospective
nuclear power plant sites that were mothballed by the Japanese conglomerate
in 2020. In a Budget address that was largely focused on plans for
pre-election tax cuts, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt confirmed an agreement had
been finalised to acquire both the Wylfa site in North Wales and the
Oldbury site in South Gloucestershire.
