Georgia’s Presidential Primary: Biden And Sanders On Climate WABE

MOLLY SAMUEL • MAR 17, 2020 “…… BOTH VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN AND U.S. SEN. BERNIE SANDERS AGREE THAT CLIMATE CHANGE IS AN URGENT ISSUE. IN THE INTRODUCTIONS TO THEIR CLIMATE PLANS, BIDEN CALLS CLIMATE CHANGE AN “EXISTENTIAL THREAT;” SANDERS CALLS IT A “GLOBAL EMERGENCY.”

Sanders and Biden agree that the U.S. should re-commit to the Paris Climate Agreement, the international accord that President Donald Trump is pulling the country out of. They also say the U.S. should be a world leader on climate change. And they have pledged to reject donations from the fossil fuel industry.

Both say that we need to make sure workers from, say, the coal industry, and their communities, aren’t left behind in a transition to cleaner energy sources.

They want to make big investments in infrastructure and in research and technology; they want to help get more electric vehicles on the roads, and improve railroads and public transit.

And they both say they embrace the Green New Deal, the proposal in Congress that lays out climate legislation. Sanders’s climate plan is actually called the Green New Deal, and he was endorsed by the Sunrise Movement, an advocacy group that’s pushing for the Green New Deal to be adopted.

Timeline and Spending

Biden says he’d spend $1.7 trillion over the next ten years. Sanders proposes to spend almost ten times that amount, $16.3 trillion.

On the schedule side, Biden’s goal is net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Sanders has a 2050 goal to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, but he also has an ambitious 2030 goal: to have all electricity and transportation powered by renewable energy sources by then.

Different Tactics

Both candidates have extensive plans, and we’re not getting all the details in here. But here are some of the tactics where they begin to diverge.

Part of what Biden wants to invest in is carbon capture technology, to basically suck carbon dioxide out of the air and store it to help counteract emissions.

Biden wants to regulate natural gas much more strictly, and to ban new oil and gas leases on federal lands. And he’d encourage renewable energy development in those places.

Sanders wants to basically remake the country’s electric system.

He wants to expand government-run power authorities and have them generate electricity from renewable sources, to eventually drive coal- and gas-fired power plants out of business.

Beyond the regulations Biden is calling for on natural gas, Sanders wants to flat out ban fracking. He also wants to ban imports and exports of fossil fuels.

And Sanders calls carbon capture technology, which Biden supports, a false solution.

Approaches To Nuclear
Sanders is also opposed to nuclear power. He says he wants to stop nuclear power plants from getting their licenses renewed and not allow any news ones to be built……..

While Sanders is against all of it, Biden supports research on a new generation of smaller, cheaper nuclear reactors. And he doesn’t rule out continuing to use the existing ones.  https://www.wabe.org/georgias-presidential-primary-sanders-and-biden-on-climate/

  1. Sanders was the outsider like Trump, who had some favor to beat Trump in the rotting establishment, american political landsape. Progressives and independents favored sanders over republican lite, segragationist, militarist sexist, demented  biden losing to trump months before the Democrat primaries.

Nate silvers favored Sanders. Some mainstream media, like NBC and USA today did as well a month or so ago and before that. Then voila the DNC , corporations  , PACs, bloomberg, wallstreet and the billionaires intervened, just before S Carolina.

All of the corporate mainstream media, did an about face on Biden as a loser to Trump and began demonizing Sanders. Mathews called Sanders a nazi. They blathered piles of lies, as demented biden confabulated and lied about  his past. Biden made several gaffes. He said he was in south africa supporting Nelson mandela at one time, which was a complete lie. Everyone knew it. Biden said this just before South Carolina primary. Sanders was predicted to win the primary.

Biden made several demented pronouncements about his past, including saying he marched w MLK . He confused his wife with his sister on stage. Biden lied about his support for cutting medicare and social security. Lied about his funding by the oil industry and defence industries. Lied about his stance on Iraq.

So far the republican party has purged 21 million people from voting, in the nov 2020 elections. Their operatives, control many proprietary electronic voting machine companies.

Sanders was a strong favorite, to win the south carolina primary and super tuesday before the DNC pulled out it’s bag of tricks and vote rigging.

Sanders won Iowa and New Hampshire. Then the DNC intevened with flakey electronic voting apps and threw them into question.
There have been 4 percent discrepancies in exit polls and results in every major state that Biden won.
Billionaire oligarchs, like mike bloomberg, intervened just before the S Carolina primary and the gaggle of centrists dropped out in planned unison to throw their support to Biden.
Black voters, young people and independents have been denied access and purged by the DNC since S Carolina.
There have been electronic vote irregularities. Precincts in key neighborhorhoods, in large cities, in places like Texas were blocked or had long lines, from voting irregulatities, that kept people from voting in the democrat primaries. Sounds like the same thing the republicans always do.
Tom Perez DNC chairman told people it was life or death to vote with the the corona virus epidemic building momentum.

Millenials, young people, people of color, independents: denied access to voting. The block of people who gave Sanders, an edge to beat so called outsider trump, will not turn out in nov 2020 .

Numerous Voting irregularities enforced across the USA by the crooked DNC.
533K  Independent votes for Sanders thrown out in california by the DNC. Millions of independent votes and votes by people of color like the Sudanse population of Cleveland thrown out  in other states, in Texas, South Carolina, Ohio, Flodia, Illinois.
    The dnc knows
    Biden is a rotten candidate.
All the other candidates were suported by Superpacs, except Sanders.
Gabbard, who said she would never support Biden, does now.
All of the other candidates were bribed by dnc and billionaires, to throw support to Biden because, the dnc corporate dark money and billionaires promised to pay off their campaign debts.

it shouldn’t be hard to understand why so many people don’t trust The Democrats. People notice when the press rips Republicans for things, like disregarding expert opinion, for trampling on people’s voting rights. Then the DNC establishment, turns around does the same thing.

At this point many progressive people, are saying they will never vote for Biden. Progressives are the silent majority of the democratic party. They truly make up 70 percent of independents and people who will vote or might vote for democrats whether they call themselves independents or, have given up since the last debacle in 2016. That is in spite of DNC and corporate propaganda. They are the force, that would beat Trump.
There are centrists making conspiracy theory points about corona virus being unleashed, so people can’t vote. Voting with the corona virus epidemic is dangerous. One man said, he only saw seven people in the streets, of miami dade during the Florida primary. That is the most populous part of Florida.

A great deal of the progressive base will not turn out for the democrats in November 2020.

    • I appreciate what you say, Laura. I, not being American, can’t vote. But I probably would vote for Biden, because, looking at the total situation, (including the young progressives who won’t vote at all), Biden probably has the better chance of getting rid of Trump, and the Republicans. AS far as I can see, there isn’t all that much difference between the Republicans and the establishment Democrats. I’d just have to choose the Democrats as the least worst.

  2. You are wrong. America is in a terrible situation. Sanders has lost at this point so, the point is moot. It is tragic because, Biden will lose.

Sanders, Warren, or perhaps one of the others, were a last chance. There would have been enough energized voters to beat Trump.
This demonstrates the dangerous slide of America into a non-democratic, corporate oligarchy.

You do not understand politics very well.
