It’s a new year, and 2013 has already kicked off a repeat of the same safety and engineering issues that plagued the nuclear industry in 2012. The two, eye opening nuclear safety issues we discuss in today’s Fairewinds’ Podcast are: a radiation scandal in Japan and a major safety problem in the US at Fort Calhoun. Arnie Gundersen alerts us to the fact that radiation exposure cover-ups did not occur only in Japan, and have occurred repeatedly in the US as well as in many other countries. Finally, we discuss Wall Street’s financial worries over US reactors.

Then Arnie Gundersen continues to talk about nuclear problems in the united states. Fort Calhoun, Sana Susana, Port St. Lucy in Florida (discussed later), New Brunswick New Jersey coverups. Princeton Avenue Plutonium Laboratory, the Manhattan project, and how sewage lines went into the underground drainage from the nuclear project. Department of Energy cover up. Flooding at Fort Calhoun and the NRC inspection report is much worse than anyone could consider possible… probably (hopefully) forcing the plant to shut down. A whole room full of documents missing and design calculations were wrong SINCE 1985, IN SPITE OF 2 NRC full time staffers there… this information is JUST COMING TO LIGHT.
Long standing problems. They can’t even find out how it was built.
Zimmer plant also had the same problem and was unable to even start due to stupidity. SHUT FORT CALHOUN DOWN – Omaha.
Did you know the NRC has Never Shut down a Nuclear plant? The Plant it’s self has to throw the towel in due to $$ trouble.
Entergy – Vermont Yankee makes no economic sense to continue to operate… Same with Palisades in Michigan. SHUT THESE DANGEROUS REACTORS DOWN!
