PTI | Dec 30, 2012 TIRUNELVELI: Several activists from various parts
of the country have arrived at Idinthakarai near Tirunelveli, the
epicentre of the over 500-day long agitation against the Kudankulam
nuclear power plant, to express their solidarity with the protesters
on the eve of New Year.

A large number of people, including activists like Dr Binayak Sen,
Prashant Bhushan and Admiral (retd) L Ramdas and groups from West
Bengal, Jharkhand, Chattishgargh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi are here to
“salute” the ” valiant” struggle of the people against the
Indo-Russian project, People’s movement against nuclear energy
convenor SP Udayakumar told reporters here on Sunday.

Udayakumar thanked all the people who have travelled long distances to
come to Idinthakarai, to spend the New Year’s Eve with the struggling
people and said the protest launched in August last year demanding
scrapping of the project over safety concerns would continue till
their “last breathe”.

“The activists would address the media from the Lourde Matha Church
premises at 3pm tomorrow (Monday),” he said.

The visiting activists and groups visited the coastal villages and
interacted with its residents. They were also shown the plant site and
its proximity to the villages.  The 1000 MW first unit of the project
