BRIEF: Phoenix Nuclear Labs gets 2 Army contracts
Oct 23, 2012 (Menafn – The Wisconsin State Journal – McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) –Phoenix Nuclear Labs, Monona, has received two contracts with the Army, totaling nearly 1 million.
An 879,000 Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant will help Phoenix develop and build a high flux neutron generator to detect improvised explosive devices. Homemade explosives are often made with little metal, which makes them harder to detect, said Evan Sengbusch, vice president for business development. He said Phoenix’s product will sense the explosive itself.
“It will be able to look ahead of a convoy and set off an alert on time to stop the convoy,” he said.

Founded in 2005, Phoenix has 12 employees, Sengbusch said, and expects to add one or two more over the next six months.
