MASS TRESPASS PLANNED AT HINKLEY POINT NUCLEAR POWER STATION – 8 October

MASS TRESPASS PLANNED AT HINKLEY POINT NUCLEAR
POWER STATION – 8 October
Protesters from all over the UK are gearing up for a mass trespass at the site
earmarked for the first of a new generation of nuclear power stations. Hundreds are
planning to converge at a weekend protest camp before scaling the fence round land
being cleared for the controversial Hinkley C power plant in Somerset.

The Stop New Nuclear Alliance expects many people to be arrested. “The
government is refusing to acknowledge that its ‘new nuclear’ strategy is dangerous
and expensive so we are being forced to raise our game,” said spokesperson Nancy
Birch.
On the Saturday before the trespass, symbolic barrels of radioactive waste will be
wheeled through the streets of nearby Bridgwater to highlight the huge stockpile of
high-level nuclear waste that will be stored at Hinkley C if it gets the green light.
There will also be a rally with international speakers.
The new French EPR reactors being proposed by EDF Energy will produce spent
fuel that is so hot it will have to be stored on site for over 100 years. If the
government gives the go-ahead for eight new nuclear power stations around the UK,
everyone’s back yard will become a toxic waste dump.
On Monday October the protesters will attempt to scale the fence around the Hinkley
C site and scatter seeds in a symbolic attempt to reclaim the damaged land. “EDF
Energy is already clearing the site despite the fact that is has not yet received
planning permission for the reactors or funding approval from its Paris HQ for the
construction of the new station,” Birch added.
Sarah Reid, a member of the Stop New Nuclear Alliance, said further damage to the
land must be avoided at all cost. “The government and EDF are hell-bent on pushing
through ‘new nuclear’ despite clear evidence that it will be impossible without
massive public subsidies and a big hike in energy bills. We are calling on the public 2
to fight this policy tooth and nail. Germany is creating a nuclear-free future that is
sustainable and affordable. We can do the same here.”
The Stop New Nuclear Alliance is a coalition of anti-nuclear groups including the
local Stop Hinkley campaign.

Dear Sir/Madam
Subject: ONR community engagement forum at Hinkley, 7.30pm on Wednesday 26 September at
The Exchange
On Wednesday 26 September, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) will be holding a forum for
communities neighbouring Hinkley A and B to hear from inspectors with responsibility for regulating safety
and security at the existing nuclear power plants, and for the proposed Hinkley Point C site. The forum will
take place at The Exchange, Express Park, Bristol Road, Bridgwater, TA6 4RR at 7.30pm.
Independently chaired by Pete Wilkinson, a member of the Sizewell site stakeholder group, the forum is
part of ONR’s commitment to carry out its work with openness and transparency by providing the local
community with an opportunity to ask questions about how the UK’s nuclear regulator works to secure the
protection of communities neighbouring the Hinkley sites. This meeting follows a similar event earlier this
year for the communities near to the Sizewell nuclear sites, which was considered a useful and important
forum for the community to express their views and to hear directly from ONR.
Have your say…
We are keen to ensure that as many people as possible – identified stakeholders as well as members of
the public – take advantage of the opportunity to question the UK’s nuclear regulator on safety and
security matters. ONR wishes to encourage all sectors of the community, regardless of their views about
the existing and potential new nuclear sites, to raise issues of interest to them. Please let us know what
topics you would like to discuss by submitting your suggestion to marie.railton@hse.gsi.gov.uk or by
writing to ‘ONR and Hinkley Communities Forum, Desk 1 4S3’ at the above address. We will ensure
that the agenda reflects the most popular subjects.
Please forward this invitation to others who might be interested in attending and please also use your own
channels to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the meeting.
Thank you for your support.

An attention-grabbing discussion is value comment. I feel that it’s best to write extra on this topic, it won’t be a taboo topic however typically persons are not enough to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers
