Demand for the scrapping of Kudankulam nuclear plant project
Scrap Kudankulam nuclear plant project: Swami Agnivesh
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics/nation/scrap-kudankulam-nuclear-plant-project-swami-agnivesh/articleshow/12641010.cms, 12 APR, 2012, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Demanding that the Centre immediately scrap the Kudankulam Nuclear power project, activist Swami Agnivesh today demanded that a high-level panel should visit the KNPP site to address fears of locals there.
“I demand that the government scrap the plant and initiate an
alternative source of clean energy. An independent panel, comprising
national and international experts of credible records, should visit
the site and a public hearing should be held,” he told reporters after
visiting KNPP in Tamil Nadu.
Since the legal system or Right to Information Act were “helpless” in
the case of Kudankulam, a higher level of inquiry — much more than
Lokpal and Lokayukta — was needed to expose corruption, he said.
“Why has Russia given up on nuclear energy after the Chernobyl
disaster and not a single plant has been set up? Why has Japan, a
technologically advanced country, decided to dismantle all nuclear
power plants in the near future after Fukushima?
“Why has Germany, another highly-industrialised country, decided to go
non-nuclear for its energy requirements and dismantle their existing
plants by 2020?,” he asked to validate his point.
Agnivesh criticised former President A P J Abdul Kalam for giving a
clean chit to KNPP and claimed that eminent geologists and nuclear
scientists had told him that the project was not at all safe for an
atomic plant.
He alleged that the Tamil Nadu government had not taken precautionary
steps in Kudankulam area in the wake of the tsunami alert issued
yesterday.
The activist urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to withdraw
all sedition charges slapped on campaigners against the project.

So much fuss over Mamata Banerjee arresting a prof who had made fun of her with some cartoons. The prof should have concentrated on study and not poking jibes at the head of the State. Yet the whole media is UP IN ARMS over this episode but Not much is being covered by this same media over the High handedness of the Central government in slapping false sedition charges against THOUSANDS of Tamils who are just asking for a change of fuel at a power generation plant so they can live in security and have no health concerns. Would any media personnel DARE to channel Ms Jaya about infringing on people’s democratic rights by bringing out 6000 Police cadre to harrass these protestors (who have every right to protest n a democratic set up )? NO Evidently the Press and TV channels would be thrashed if they dared to comment on this anti democratic terrorist move of the Tamil Government and by the corrupt central government. Something is not quite right with the heads of Indian people who are unable to think and jump up and down and shout foul ONLY when the media says so. As they have all followed the parrot type of education, learning every thing by repeating it 100 times now they learn and believe whatever the media repeats and tell them 100 times….that they have no analytical capacity is Obvious….only a few like Agnivesh, Praful Bidwai, the Ramdases and of course scientists not affiliated to the government have had the intelligence to see the danger and non viability of deadly nuclear power and have come forward to protest and enlighten the public.
