The News That Matters about the Nuclear Industry Fukushima Chernobyl Mayak Three Mile Island Atomic Testing Radiation Isotope

Protect our grandchildren- close down New York’s nuclear plants

demand that New York state devise a plan to phase out all nuclear power and replace it with a combination of energy conservation and wind, solar and geothermal energy! That way we could all feel a lot safer, and protect generations of American children.

It’s time to close the facilities in New York Syracuse.com, Rick Olanoff, January 06, 2012 Did you know that Germany is planning to phase out its nuclear power plants?

Did you read that German children living near nuclear power plants are twice as likely to develop leukemia as those who live elsewhere? (And there have been no nuclear disasters in Germany that would greatly increase these risks.)

Did you hear that 800 Japanese women from all over the country
protested for a week in Tokyo recently, demanding an end to nuclear
power and safety measures for all children living in highly
contaminated areas of Japan?

Did you know that more than eight months after the Fukushima nuclear
power plant disaster, there are no adequate answers in Japan to
controlling radiation and accomplishing decontamination?

Are you aware that 25 years after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
explosion, there is still a 30-kilometer dead zone where no life can
safely exist?

Have you heard that 31 of America’s nuclear power plants, including
two in Oswego, are of the same General Electric designs as those that
failed in Fukushima?

Are you aware that New York’s Indian Point Nuclear Power plant is one
mile from a recently discovered intersection of two active fault
lines?

And did anyone tell you that 20 million people live within a 50-mile
radius of Indian Point?

Is it common knowledge (it should be) that there are no adequate
evacuation plans for areas near nuclear power plants such as Indian
Point?

Did you know that insurance companies won’t adequately insure nuclear
power plants and the American taxpayers are forced to pay for this
instead?

Did your Earth science teacher inform you of powerful earthquakes in
California, South Carolina and Missouri in the 19th century — states
with nuclear power plants today?

Has your friendly nuclear energy company let you in on the knowledge
that there is no adequate plan in the United States for disposing of
high-level nuclear power plant waste generated in the ordinary
operation of these plants?

And for your information, nuclear energy supplies slightly less than
20 percent of America’s power, while conservation alone could save 20
percent of our energy use!

So, we implore you to demand that New York state devise a plan to
phase out all nuclear power and replace it with a combination of
energy conservation and wind, solar and geothermal energy! That way we
could all feel a lot safer, and protect generations of American
children.
