Decentralised solar energy a boon for local companies
“We’re recommending it to everyone,” ….. “We’ve certainly got our money’s worth.”

Many local companies laud effects of renewable energy efforts By Marc Munroe DionHerald News Staff Reporter 22 May 11, FALL RIVER — It’s been 15 months since linen manufacturer Matouk, 925 Airport Road, installed about 200 solar panels atop its building, which houses the company’s offices, manufacturing space and factory store.
Matouk Controller Peter Brust said it’s been a good deal for the company.
“We’re recommending it to everyone,” Brust said. “We’ve certainly got our money’s worth.”
Brust said Matouk spent about $570,000 buying and installing the solar panels
“Over the last 12 months, they’ve supplied 31.7 percent of our energy,” Brust said.
“That puts us right on track that it will take about four to five years to pay off the original expense.
“We would put up more if we had the space,” Brust said………Westport’s Whaling City Transit, which provides school bus, wheelchair transport and van services to Greater New Bedford and Greater Fall River, installed 177 solar panels in 2009.
Whaling City president and co-owner Bob Neves said the company’s decision to install the panels was a good one.
Neves said the company has just paid off its share of the $315,000 cost, which came to about $60,000 after rebates and grants. Neves said Whaling City paid around $200 for utilities last year, compared with $700 or $800 a month prior to installing the solar panels.
“I highly recommend it to anyone,” Neves said. “It’s one of the best things I’ve done here.”
At brewing supply company Crosby & Baker, 999 Main Road, Westport, General Manager Seth Schneider said the company’s solar panels have been a major success…..
