Community wind can be a winner for UK’s local utilities
Why Community Wind Should Be Part of a Utility’s Portfolio, Renewable Energy World, By Cynthia Crooks, February 16, 2011 The clock is ticking. The production tax credit for renewable energy is set to expire at the end of 2012, which means that to take advantage of the incentive a project has to be “commercially operable” by that time. Since it can take two years or longer for a wind farm to be up and running, utilities that don’t already have a project in development should be thinking about initiating one, and fast. But in their rush, utilities should not overlook the additional benefits in speed and local good will that can be had through Community Wind. Continue reading

Floods, extreme weather, scientifically linked to human caused global warming
Blame human emissions for British floods – 16 February 2011 – New Scientist “……….This week, a study has shown that the devastating floods which damaged nearly 10,000 properties in England and Wales in 2000, and cost £1.3 billion in insurance losses, were made significantly more likely by climate change caused by humans.
It is the first study to quantitatively link a severe rainfall event and climate change. The team that carried out the work, led by Myles Allen of the University of Oxford, had earlier linked the 2003 European heatwave to climate change……
The study of the 2003 heatwave, which used similar methodology, found that greenhouse gases made the event two to four times more likely to happen…….A bigger collaboration between the British Met Office and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the US began last year, also with the aim of boosting our ability to link specific events to climate change…….Blame human emissions for British floods – environment – 16 February 2011 – New Scientist
Big money for new USA nuclear weapons
A New Nuclear Triad? NUCLEAR POWER and CIVIL LIBERTIES – theme for February 2011
With uranium mining, nuclear power, nuclear wastes, and nuclear weapons, – civil liberties are increasingly eroded. They must be, even when all seems to be going smoothly. Nuclear reprocessing, with plutonium as fuel, would necessitate taking away even more civil liberties.
A police state would develop, even with “peaceful” nuclear reprocessing. But imagine how fast we would lose civil liberties, in the event of a nuclear mishap – theft of plutonium, terrorist strike, accident. For a start, the public would not even be informed, (for fear of public panic). Very quickly, that police state would be turned into a martial law state.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission being sued by three States
In New York, the lawsuit on Tuesday had another political subtext. The licenses of the Indian Point 2 and 3 reactors in Buchanan are nearing expiration, and Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo opposes a 20-year extension sought by the plant’s owners.

Indiana’s Clean Energy Bill an incentive to nuclear industry
… it includes dirty energy like ‘clean’ coal, nuclear and natural gas in its definition of renewable energy,”…….
