Environmentalists protest transportation of nuclear wastes – PTI, 16 Feb 2011, -Environmentalists in Germany announced that they would extend their protest against the transportation and recycling of nuclear waste near residential areas and insist on it being stored in a nuclear deposit.Greenpeace activists blocked the railway line near the central town of Karlsruhe yesterday to prevent the transfer of 140 drawers of steel and a mixture of radioactive glass in five containers, a substance called nuclear soup by environmentalists.
The demonstrators, some of them chained to the entrance of the Lubmin nuclear power plant, demanded the fissile liquid waste be stored in a nuclear deposit instead of being recycled.

They warned that transporting it to a temporary site in Lubmin entail incalculable environmental damage.

In Wittenberg, residents have hung a yellow wooden cross as a symbol of anti-nuclear movement in protest against the passage of the convoy heading for the state of Western Mecklenburg-Pomerania in northern Germany, scheduled for Wednesday.
