Obama budget confirms end of Yucca Mountain project –Las Vegas  ReviewJournal.com By Steve Tetreault Feb. 14, 2011  WASHINGTON — The government could be out of the Yucca Mountain business entirely by October, according to budget documents released this morning by the Obama administration.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will seek no money in fiscal 2012 from the special fund dedicated to the proposed Nevada nuclear waste repository, according to the agency’s budget plan.

NRC staff last October began to close out its review of the Yucca project following a directive from top agency officials. Today’s proposed NRC budget states the closeout “will be complete prior to fy2012,” which begins Oct. 1.

NRC chairman Gregory Jaczko told reporters earlier this month that a repository licensing board will be disbanded as part of the shutdown…….
