Los Angeles success with renewable energy
LA’s Department of Water and Power Celebrates Renewable Energy Goal, Get Solar.com, January 14th 2011 The mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, shared some good news with city residents this week: LA’s Department of Water and Power managed to secure 20 percent of its power from renewable sources, including solar power, in 2010……..
During a press conference yesterday, Villaraigosa told reporters that he, like the state’s governor, is firmly committed to implementing solar and other renewable energy technologies. “As long as I’m mayor, I think you’re going to see a steady march,” toward more energy coming from renewable energy sources, he declared. There will be, nonetheless, obstacles that the city must hurdle as it charges on the path toward lowering its carbon footprint. Austin Beutner, LA’s first deputy mayor, said that residents may have electricity rate hikes in the next few years to offset the costs of going green: “I think everybody understands there’s no free lunch,” he said.
