Nuclear Waste Debate Hits Very Close To Home WJBF–TV, 8 Jan 2011, Augusta, GA –-A national panel is in Augusta to find out what to do with nuclear waste. Friday, the Blue Ribbon Commission got input from politicians, advocates and environmentalists.

About 150 people attended that meeting at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Augusta.Peggy Guy, Physicians for Social Responsibility: “When I think nuclear, I always think of my mother. The Blue Ribbon Commission toured the Savannah River Site (SRS) Thursday, focusing on treating, storing, and reprocessing nuclear fuel and waste. The commission has toured several states and countries, including Sweden and Finland. They’re on a fact-finding mission to find out acceptable storage means. The waste is now stored in tanks at SRS and was supposed to go to Yucca Mountain, in Nevada, but that was shut down last year……..
The commission is headed to New Mexico, next month, and will go to Japan and France after that. They will present their recommendations to the Obama administration in June.
