Ministry gives team Sh300m to lead push for nuclear energy. Daily Nation: By KABURU MUGAMBI , December 20 2010 The government has given the newly appointed Nuclear Electricity Project Committee Sh300 million to start work.

Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi on Monday said the committee, which is chaired by former Rongo MP Ochilo Ayacko, is expected to use the money to explore affordable sources of energy.

The committee is required to undertake extensive civic education on nuclear electricity power generation and implement a detailed roadmap for the launch of the country’s first nuclear power plant.He challenged the commission to carry out a national campaign to educate Kenyans on nuclear energy……
“We want to educate Kenyans what nuclear power is all about and remove those psychological negativities in minds of Kenyans,” the minister told journalists while launching the committee in his Nyayo House office……The use of nuclear energy, which is seen by governments as an alternative way to generate electricity, faces negative public perception largely due to safety and security issues……
