Talks are currently being held to revise an agreement dating from 1956 and which expires in 2014. The accord effectively bans South Korea from recycling uranium. However, the country is running out of space to store the spent fuel and the situation is expected to exacerbate as South Korea plans to build more nuclear reactors. Washington is concerned that allowing the country to process the fuel for reuse may discourage North Korea from giving up its weapons programme, reported the New York Times.
