Questions in Washington on costs of nuclear weapons

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. James R. Langevin has joined a Republican colleague in calling for a more precise accounting of what it costs to develop and maintain the nation’s nuclear arsenal.Langevin and U.S. Rep. Michael Turner of Ohio, the chairman and ranking Republican, respectively, on the House subcommittee with jurisdiction over nuclear weapons, responded to a new report by the Government Accountability Office that criticized the budget system of the federal agency in charge of keeping the weapons secure.
“We must have a clear picture of the total costs of maintaining an effective nuclear stockpile to be able to accurately assess current and future needs and capabilities. We need to know exactly where the money is going and how it is being used………
