Uranium in retarded kids’ systems: German lab | Global Sikh News Source: H. Sidhu, 18 Junex 2010, Bathinda, Punjab: Water samples from the region contain a high amount of uranium and other heavy metals. It’s crippling children’s brains. There’s high-level of uranium in the drinking-water sources and nearly all kinds of heavy metals in the hair samples of 149 children and a few adults at the Baba Farid Centre for Special Children in Faridkot, confirms a reputed German laboratory on the basis of test reports. Most children are below the age of 13 and all have neurological disabilities. There are many heavy metals in over 80 per cent of the hair samples taken from the children, and their drinking water sources are polluted with uranium, a radioactive element, confirms Microtrace Mineral Lab of Germany…………“South African clinical toxicologist Carin Smit visited the Faridkot centre for special children last year. Intrigued by development disorders among so many children, she set out to find the reason,“ health activist Dr N.S. Azad, and Pritpal Singh, in charge of the centre for special children, told the media…..
“The tests of the hair are somewhat surprising. We expected arsenic exposure, but instead, more than 80 per cent of the adults and children, many living with cerebral palsy and mental retardation showed pathological levels for uranium, indicating high tissue levels,“ Dr Smit has written in the report. The toxicologist had sent the hair samples to the German laboratory in March, 2009. Uranium in retarded kids’ systems: German lab | Global Sikh News
