Anxiety over Iran’s missile test
Iran raises nuclear tension with long-range missile test Open Security Rukeyya Khan, 16 December 2009 Iran said on Wednesday it had successfully tested what it called an upgraded version of its longest-range solid-fuel missile. The Sajjil-2 has a longer range than previously-tested missiles and could travel 2,000km (1,243 miles), Iran’s Arabic-language TV station announced. The announcement comes hours after the US approved legislation to impose sanctions on foreign companies that help supply fuel to Iran. The latest missile test prompted a call from British Prime Minister Gordon Brown for stricter sanctions. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Brown said the test would be treated ‘with the seriousness it deserves’, adding that it was a ‘matter of serious concern to the international community and it does make the case for us moving further on sanctions.’
