Iran allows inspectors, but says no country should have nuke weapons
Iran Agrees to Nuclear Plant Inspections, Enrichment
Oct. 1 (Bloomberg) Ladane Nasseri and Gregory Viscusi–– Iran agreed to allow international inspectors to visit its new nuclear fuel plant within the next two weeks and will meet with negotiators for the U.S. and other leading United Nations powers later this month, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana said.
Iran also agreed to consider sending most of its stock of enriched uranium to Russia and France to be converted into fuel for a research reactor for medical purposes.
“Today was only a start,” Solana, the point man for the U.S. and five other powers involved in the Geneva talks, said at a news conference. “We will now need to see progress on practical steps.”
Today’s meeting, in an 18th-century villa outside the Swiss city, brought together Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili with representatives of the five permanent UN Security Council members — the U.S, Russia, China, France and Britain — plus Germany. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=alzY9×2wVGos
Jalili: No one should have nuclear weapons
PRESS TV 01 Oct 2009 Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili says all nations should have the right to peaceful nuclear technology.
He told a press conference in Geneva that Iran will not abandon its nuclear right, urging world powers to respect each country’s right to peaceful nuclear energy.
“We are committed to our commitment in the framework of the NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty), and at the same time we will go ahead and stick to our nuclear rights in the framework of the NPT,” Jalili said after his talks with six world powers on Iran’s nuclear drive.
Jalili also emphasized that the world needed to get rid of nuclear warheads, adding that the Islamic Republic believes no country should have such armaments.
“No one should have nuclear weapons,” said Jalili. http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=107608§ionid=351020104
