in three quarters of breast cancer cases, genetics is not a factor
This is a very important research finding. For decades, women have been fed stories on how breast cancer is probably genetically caused. Each women is advised to look into the cancer background of her family. OK. Still a good idea.
So the cancer is supposed to be initiated from inside us. But how about environmental causes? How about the chemical bath in which we all swim? In food additives, in chemical sprays on fruit and vegetables. And how about ionising radiation – some from (often necessary) medical radiation, some from uranium, nuclear facilities, and atomic bomb testing.
We’re always being urged to donate to breast cancer research. How about some research into environmental causes of breast cancer?
Genetics not a factor in three-quarters of breast cancer cases Herald Sun, Susie O’Brien, 16 Feb 13, FAMILY history plays no role in breast cancer in three out of four women, a shock new Victorian survey has revealed.
Analysis of the breast screens of almost 20,000 women over two decades shows 72 per cent of women who got breast cancer had no family history of the disease.
The findings contradict the popular belief that genetics plays a key role in determining which one in nine women will get breast cancer….. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/genetics-not-a-factor-in-three-quarters-of-breast-cancer-cases/story-e6frf7kx-1226579439609
Fukushima, the hidden disaster – Politicians in Japan that spoke out!
21st February 2013
Arclight2011
One of the situations that developed after the earthquake and the resulting Meltdowns of three nuclear reactor cores and a mysterious explosion in the number four reactor building, was that the Japanese government and local officials did not appear to be open and transparent in their dealing of the crisis,

Some vocal outrage on the issues surrounding the people of Fukushima was heard, even though the local and national press (with few exceptions) were censored in not making any statements on any possible or happening effects caused by ionising radiation from the Daichi nuclear disaster and to generally support the Japanese government and corporate line.
However, here one of the members of parliament to challenge the way the disaster was being held was Kawada Ryuehi. He is a Member of the House of Councillors and amongst other accomplishments he is a representative of the Human Rights Activist Society.
On the 2nd November 2012 he made an explosive challenge to the way the disaster was being managed. He brought some urgent questions to the floor of the house concerning the Child Victims Support Law. This issue was not covered by the main stream media outlets outside of Japan.
Here is the video with English subtitles and a full transcript of the Law in question below it on the link provided :
Some memorable quotes here
“People feel betrayed and are disappointed”
“ The east Japan reconstruction project, set up after raising taxes specifically to rescue nuclear accident victims, has been used for unrelated purposes as the media has disclosed…. because the government modified the Reconstruction Law insidiously so it could use the budget for things other than reconstruction.”
And concerning the governments mismanagement in keeping records of the placement of refugees throughout Japan, he had this to say:
“…keeping us yet from getting hold of the number of refugees. Twenty months have passed since the quake and the refugees can no longer wait. We can not go ahead with the Child Victim Support Law without knowing the number of affected people…..”
I or someone will be breaking down his speech further in another article/post but the video is worth a watch even if to hear the hecklers trying to shout him down.. They did not succeed!!

Akira Matsu is a Japanese politician of the New Komeito Party, a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet (national legislature). A native of Kanagawa Prefecture.
In September 29 2011 made an impassioned speech on behalf of a pregnant mother with 4 four children who had discovered her children had all tested positive for cesium 137 and cesium 134 (no tests for Strontium 90 etc have been done to date).
The children were publicly rebuked by their teachers if they did not drink the contaminated milk. Please note the reaction (or non reaction) of the politicians during her talk. To compare the situation of these victim children who refused the contaminated milk, she made this quote:
“They were treated like traitors during the war”
And as she talked of the mother fears about being forced to consider leaving her home in the fukushima prefecture, Osamu Fujimura and Yukio Edano both ministers of the government are seen on the video to be laughing at her concerns of her constituents. Here is a short video for that
Tepco demands that Fukushima nuclear victims pay back compensation money!

[…] A report by the environmental activist group Greenpeace, to be released later today, points out that the firms that helped design and build the Fukushima reactors [such as General Electric, Toshiba and Hitachi] are not required to pay a cent in compensation and are profiting from the disaster.
Meanwhile, the ABC program AM has learned that the operator – TEPCO – is handing out what’s called ‘temporary’ compensation which victims of the meltdown have to repay.
“We had that money deducted from our compensation. I was surprised, so I called TEPCO and said that they were using dirty tricks, that they were using fraud. Why did they give it to us to if we had to pay it back?” -Yukiko Kameya of Futaba

Washington’s Governor alarmed at major radioactive leak from Hanford
Editorial: Radioactive leak at Hanford may suggest “serious tank failure of such magnitude that even semisolid materials are now able to find a way out” http://enenews.com/editorial-radioactive-leak-hanford-suggest-serious-tank-failure-magnitude-semisolid-materials-able-find
Title: Editorial: A perfect radioactive storm
Source: Daily Astorian
Date: February 19, 2013
“Perfect radioactive storm” are not words any resident along the Columbia River ever wanted to hear coming from the lips of a top elected official about the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
Yet this is how Washington Gov. Jay Inslee last week characterized news about a major leak of highly toxic sludge from a single-wall storage tank, at the very time the nation nears across-the-board funding cuts that could hobble any response.
[…] All the liquids that could be pumped from it were removed in 1995. That a serious new breach has developed suggests the possibility additional water is seeping into the tank, or there has been a serious tank failure of such magnitude that even semisolid materials are now able to find a way out. […]
It is time for Pacific Northwest leaders and citizens to express our concern about this matter in the strongest possible terms. […]

Obama shifting away from his previous pro nuclear stance
Obama’s Shifting Stance on Nuclear Energy?, Energy Collective, Joseph Koblich February 20, 2013 In his State of the Union address to the U.S. Congress in 2011, President Obama lauded nuclear power as an essential part of the non-carbon mix that he would champion while revamping our inefficient, high-carbon energy sector:
“Some folks want wind and solar. Others want nuclear, clean coal, and natural gas. To meet this goal, we will need them all…”
In 2012′s address, the president mentioned “renewable energy” and “jobs”, but didn’t explicitly mention or neglect nuclear power. This year, however, he listed a number of energy sources on which the energy future of the United States would rely. Wind, solar, natural gas, and oil all made the list again this year, but nuclear power was absent. In the same breath that the president touted natural gas, he even pointed out “…our emissions of the dangerous carbon pollution that threatens our planet have actually fallen.”….

Nuclear Lobby Doesn’t Tell How Much Nuclear Generated Last Year http://k.lenz.name/LB/?p=8858 Feb 19 2013 by Karl-Friedrich Lenz The good news for Australian Fossil Nukes like the one I discussed yesterday is that nuclear didn’t decline at all in Australia last year.
That is of course caused by the fact that it is completely illegal there in the first place, and there is no way to further decline from zero…..
While it is easy to find out how much nuclear declined in Australia, it is surprisingly difficult to find out what happened world wide. Continue reading

Ten Urgent Reasons to Reject Nuclear Power Now http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/14461-ten-urgent-reasons-to-reject-nuclear-power-now 17 February 2013 By Jim McCluskey, Truthout
“……..1. Nuclear Power Stations are Prohibitively Dangerous. There have now been four grave nuclear reactor accidents: Windscale in Britain in 1957 (the one that is never mentioned), Three Mile Island in the United States in 1979, Chernobyl in the Soviet Union in 1986 and now Fukushima. Each accident was unique, and each was supposed to have been impossible.
A recent book, Chernobyl: Consequences of the Catastrophe for People and the Environment, concludes that, based on records now available, some 985,000 people died between 1986 and 2004, mainly of cancer, as a result of the Chernobyl accident. Alice Slater, New York representative of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, comments: “The tragic news uncovered by comprehensive new research that almost one million people died in the toxic aftermath of Chernobyl should be a wake-up call to people all over the world to petition their governments to put a halt to the current industry-driven ‘nuclear renaissance.’ Aided by a corrupt IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), the world has been subjected to a massive coverup and deception about the true damages caused by Chernobyl.”
At Fukushima we have the worst industrial disaster ever. Three simultaneous ongoing complete meltdowns have proven impossible to stop or contain since they started almost two years ago. These meltdowns are still pouring radiation pollution across the Japanese landscape.
International experts (e.g. Charles Perrow in Normal Accidents) agree that there will continue to be disastrous failures at nuclear power stations, and that this cannot be avoided.
As Edward Teller, the great nuclear physicist, said, “If you [try to] construct something foolproof, there will always be a fool greater than the proof.”
2. Nuclear Power Stations are Prohibitively Expensive. Continue reading
Ocean near Fukushima still getting radiation leakage, blue fin tuna with radiation

“…The answer was yes. (See below for the PDF of the study.) That means, ultimately, that there is still a high level of radiation in the waters near the Fukushima plant most likely because, as marine chemist, Ken Buessler, asserts, the plant is still leaking radiation into the ocean nearly two years later….”
Bluefin Tuna From The Fukushima Nuclear Meltdown Still Have Traces Of Radiation, Forbes, Monte Burke, 20 Feb 13,
Last May I wrote a piece about Bluefin tuna caught off the coast of southern California that carried radiation from the Fukushima,Japan, nuclear plant that was damaged in the March 2011. The fish were caught in August 2011 as they migrated east 6,000 miles from their spawning grounds in Japan in search of prey….
Last week one of the authors of the study from last year, Daniel J. Madigan from Stanford University’s Hopkins Marine Station—along with five other scientists— published a new follow-up study. The main question that this new study wanted to answer: Would the migratory Bluefin tuna show up again a year later off the coast of California carrying radiation from Fukushima? Secret transport of highly enriched uranium, from Ontario to South Carolina
How should any public right to know be weighed next conflicting needs of secrecy and security?
Uranium convoy heading your way? North Country Public radio, February 17th, 2013 by Lucy Martin “….sometime soon an armed convoy of trucks carrying depleted uranium may be trundling down roads between a nuclear facility in Chalk River Ontario and a reprocessing site in South Carolina.
For obvious reasons, specifics about transporting highly-enriched uranium (HEU) are not being publicized. As the crow flies, though, such a journey could easily involve cutting across New York State.
Here’s the story as reported in the Ottawa CItizen this week by Ian MacLeod:
…a 2011 federal government memo says the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) considers it unnecessary to hold public sessions that would allow citizens to ask questions and comment on the HEU repatriations to the U.S. The CNSC declined to comment on the memo Tuesday.
Documents from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission say an “expedited” approval is being sought for transport of the liquid HEU. It is believed to be the first time such a highly radioactive solution has been transported by road in North America and, according to U.S. commission documents, could happen as early as August. Title: Hanford Nuclear Tank in Wash. Is Leaking Liquids
Source: Associated Press
Author: By SHANNON DININNY and MIKE BAKER
Date: February 16, 2013
“You couldn’t find a more perfect radioactive storm … I am alarmed about this on many levels. This raises concerns, not only about the existing leak … but also concerning the integrity of the other single shell tanks of this age.” -Gov. Jay Inslee
The long-delayed cleanup of the nation’s most contaminated nuclear site became the subject of more bad news Friday, when Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced that a radioactive waste tank there is leaking.
On Friday, the U.S. Department of Energy said liquid levels are decreasing in one of 177 underground tanks at the site.
[…] Inslee said the tank is the first to have been documented to be losing liquids since all Hanford tanks were stabilized in 2005. His staff said the federal government is working to assess other tanks. […]
“We’re out of time, obviously. These tanks are starting to fail now,” said Tom Carpenter of the Hanford watchdog group Hanford Challenge. “We’ve got a problem. This is big.” […]
Vogtle new nuclear plant is not signalling a nuclear power revival
Vogtle is progressing but nuclear revival is not ajc By Kristi Swartz, 17 Feb 13, When major construction started at Georgia Power’s Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion project near Augusta a year ago, all eyes were on what was supposed to be the rebirth of the nuclear industry after more than a generation without new plants.
The stakes were high for Georgia Power and its parent, Atlanta-based Southern Co., which became responsible for showing the nation that the nuclear industry could build two reactors without major technical problems, delays or cost overruns. Consumers already were on the hook, paying for Georgia Power’s $6.1 billion portion of the project through a fee on their monthly utility bills.
The $14 billion Vogtle expansion in Waynesboro — one of the largest economic development initiatives in state history — is behind schedule, and the nuclear revival hasn’t worked out the way the industry had hoped. Continue reading
Youtube: meteorite over a nuclear danger zone in Russia

Reporter: We do know that at least 20,000 of the emergency personnel have been told to stay on high alert. I don’t think that order has recalled yet. I think they’re still on high alert because you have to understand as a matter of fact this could be a little teaser of what’s coming….
Reporter: If you look at the history of the area — here we’ve got video of the zinc factory that was hit and just blown out — I you could imagine waking up to this, if you look at the history of the area, this is essentially a giant nuclear facility. There are seven nuclear plants here that produce fuel….
Host: So it’s a danger zone.
Reporter: It’s a very big danger zone. During the soviet are it was basically a nuclear test site. Very heavily protected. So you could imagine that residents thought it was an attack or manmade disaster.

Utah Bill designed for ratepayers to pay upfront for new nuclear reactors.
The bill is basically an admission that nuclear power plants are far too expensive, and far too risky an investment, to be bankrolled through the private capital market.
Nuclear speculation SB199 would shift risk to ratepayers, Salt Lake Tribune Feb 20 2013 When the ink isn’t even dry before the sponsoring lawmaker starts distancing himself from a bill he just introduced, the possibility of that bill becoming law seems remote indeed.
Which is good, because Sen. Curt Bramble’s SB199 is a horrible idea.
