The News That Matters about the Nuclear Industry

Nuclear Power? It’s the ECONOMY, stupid!: theme for September 2013

scrutiny-on-costsThe nuclear lobby so actively defends itself – about radiation hazards, environmental damage, un-safety, nuclear waste dilemma, –  and of course – it poses  as climate change solution.

Why bother?   What is really  killing nuclear power is ECONOMICS.   The World Nuclear Industry Status Report 2013 tells the sorry story details of an industry in decline.

And here’s what USA Energy Secretary and Nuclear Enthusiast Ernest Moniz said, reluctantly, (15/8/13) ” I think it is very hard to see a future for nuclear power plants unless a new technology like small modular reactors becomes available in say, the next ten years.”

And what of small modular reactors ?    August 8, 2013 “A Small-modular-reactor-dudshift to “small module reactors” (SMRs) is unlikely to breathe new life into the increasingly moribund U.S. nuclear power industry, since SMRs will likely require tens of billions of dollars in federal subsidies or government purchase orders, create new reliability vulnerabilities, as well as serious concerns in relation to both safety and proliferation, according a report issued today by the nonprofit Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (IEER) think tank .”

text-my-money-2And how can the nuclear industry save itself?   Well – there are two ways:

  1. The lucrative nuclear weapons industry, both in the existing nuclear weapons counries, and in selling nuclear technology to “new, non-nuclear” countries- Asia, and the Middle East, that want the option of nuclear weapons.
  2. Ensuring that the tax-payer cops the costs, as for example in USA’s tax-payer insurance – the Price Anderson Act.  As for example, in subsidies, such as UK’s plan for fixed high electricity prices. As for example in regimes where the government carries  the costs – as in France, China, Japan.

  2. Vajrasattva (Blue) / LeRoy Matthews ……………..(Call me Vaj.) ….says :
$ is Good, making $ is Good, people who want to make $ are Good, people who succeed in making $ are Good.
Politicians, etc. , since they STEAL $ from industries, businesses, etc. , & try to impose anti-industry, anti-business, etc. , “rules” & “regulations” &
“laws”, etc. ,on industries, businesses, etc. , can NEVER be pro-industry, pro-business, etc.
A decline in an industry, business, etc. , is NEVER caused by the economy.
Stolen $ belongs to the Victims, not to the Thieves.
There is no such thing as “government $” , “federal $” , etc.
Saving industries, businesses, etc. , by “giving” them more STOLEN $ doesn’t make sense.
Guns, etc. , are just, basically speaking, pieces of metal. Pieces of metal are NEVER Dangerous, Powerful, etc.
Mao Zedong’s statement that ” … power comes from the barrel of a gun” is FALSE.
Some people insist that The Ultimate Weapon is :
    the words “NO- I WON’T!”. ……………(N- IW!)
The so-called “U .S. Government” is not only BANKRUPT, It’s Head- Over- Heels In Debt, Operating Way In The Red, & It Has A Huge, & Increasing, BUDGET DEFICIT. THERE’S VIRTUALLY ZERO $ FOR ANYTHING WHATSOEVER. (See what Economics Professor Laurence Kotlikoff of Boston University says about the Debt!)
Other so-called “governments” all over the world are ALSO having SEVERE $ Problems.

    • A strange argument that seems to convey the message that guns are good, and the gun-selling business should continue, unfettered. At the same time, Leroy Matthews seems to be very much against the US government.

But the US government is the biggest buyer of weaponry, particularly nuclear weaponry. So – the US government is the biggest customer of the weapons industry. There’s plenty of money for weapons, apparently. I don’t know what he’s complaining about – seeing that his favourite business is doing so very well, thanks to the US government.

  3. “Strange”?

From Vajrasattva (Blue)/ LeRoy Matthews :
Why don’t you actually READ & TRY TO UNDERSTAND MY COMMENTS, instead of quickly responding with Crazy, Stupid, Lying,
    Ridiculous, Gibberish?
Prof. L.K. apparently INSISTS that what he Deliberately & Erroneously Calls the “National Debt” , the “Fiscal Gap” , etc. , IS ACTUALLY OVER $235 TRILLION, & GOING UP OVER $1 TRILLION A MONTH. As I’ve been telling him & many others for some time, THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS the “NATIONAL DEBT” , the “Fiscal Gap” , etc.

I really don’t know why you’re referring to the “Post-Fukushima Costs”.
AS I’VE POINTED OUT TO YOU IN OTHER LETTERS
—- SEARCH for : Vajrasattva Crisis Message, for example, —-
YOUR MAJOR, SEVERE, CATASTROPHES Apparently ARE, & WILL BE, CONTINUING INDEFINITELY —- The Pacific Ring Of Fire, The 3 Gorges, & Other, Dams, Fukushima, Sakurajima, Severe Typhoons, etc., etc.
With “Governments” & Big Companies all over the world BANKRUPT &/OR WAY IN DEBT, WHO’S SUPPOSED TO PAY FOR YOU LUNATICS’ DELIBERATELY MAN-MADE DISASTERS??
