Solar energy projects for India’s rural areas

Solar energy to be promoted in Varanasi http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/varanasi/Solar-energy-to-be-promoted-in-Varanasi/articleshow/13767724.cms Binay Singh, TNN | Jun 3, 2012, VARANASI: With the announcement of a budgetary provision of Rs 100 crore for promoting solar energy projects particularly in the rural areas of the state the authorities of New and renewable Energy Development Agency (NEDA) are optimistic about further promotion and use of solar energy in the region.
“Though we are yet to receive guideline in this regard, we are hopeful that it would accelerate the pace of promotion of solar energy in the state,” said the senior NEDA officer Rajmani Pandey. It may be mentioned here that the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav while presenting the budget for 2012-13 on Friday announced a provision of Rs 100 crore for the promotion of solar energy projects.
“We are looking for covering more areas with solar energy through solar street lights and solar water heating systems,” Pandey told TOI on Saturday. According to him, over 500 solar streetlights have already been installed in rural areas.

I agree, but people need to realize that adding Solar to their house is an purchase that could improve the future value of their property if / when they make a choice to sell. With the environment the way it is going we simply cannot overlook any product or service that offers zero cost energy at no cost to both the consumer and more significantly the world!
