Russia planning nuclear powered space engines and nuclear plants on Mars

A space industry official has said that the first launch could come as early as 2020.Energia Space Corporation’s CEO Vitaly Lopota on Tuesday formally announced that his group would start work on standardized space modules with nuclear-powered propulsion systems from 2011.
The first launch, which is expected by 2020, could be made with a capacity of 150 to 500 KW nuclear engines.An approximate $580 million are likely to be needed to complete the project. The Russian space agency also expressed its willingness to design a space-based nuclear power station, which can be deployed on the Mars or the moon for 10-15 years…..
