Barack Obama less keen on climate change action, more keen on nuclear power
Leader cools on climate agenda * Brad Norington, The Australian * November 05, 2010 BARACK Obama has suddenly dumped his ambitious agenda to combat climate change with legislation imposing limits on greenhouse gases……..Mr Obama’s decision could have implications for Julia Gillard’s plans to revive climate change legislation seeking a price on carbon.
Without backing for a comprehensive greenhouse gas policy in the US, Ms Gillard is likely to face increased pressure from the opposition and other critics who argue Australia should not proceed in isolation.
Mr Obama yesterday tried to put a bright face on his decision to abandon a cap-and-trade scheme intended to help industries adjust to a price on carbon……
Declaring that a better energy policy was still possible, Mr Obama floated the idea of consensus with Republicans on new nuclear power plants, natural gas projects and the development of electric cars. He said fuel-efficiency standards for cars had already been improved without the need for legislation. Leader cools on climate agenda | The Australian
